An excellent tribute to recently departed adventurer extraordinaire Sr Edmund Hillary.

NASA embosses space images for the blind
from The Register
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01/15/invisible_sky_book/

This is kind of cool. NASA has released a new book of observed space images that are embossed and accompanied by large-print and braille text. It would be interesting to hear a first-hand review from someone visually disabled.

Report: 4 major studios cancel TV writers contracts, giving up on current season
from StarTribune.com Top Stories
http://www.startribune.com/13786086.html

20th Century Fox Television, CBS Paramount Network Television, NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Television have all cancelled their TV writers contracts for this season. *sigh* Well, I guess watching less TV was one of my resolutions, and it just got much easier to follow. :S

Did "Fake" Simpson Derail Dallas? - ABC News
from Google News
http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=4132194&page=1

This is a rather amusing story about the NY Times planting a very good Jessica Simpson look-alike in the stands during the NFC playoff game between the NY Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. There's been controvery over Simpson being a distraction for Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo.

North Star player's death 40 years ago changed the game of hockey forever
from StarTribune.com Top Stories
http://www.startribune.com/13797041.html

As is often true with most safety and security changes, it seems that the NHL mandated helmets only after a tragedy. This story talks about how old hockey vet Bill Masterton died due to head injuries incurred during a game and how the incident led to the rule change.

Steve Jobs Speaks. Twitter Goes Down.
from Mashable! by Adam Ostrow
http://mashable.com/2008/01/15/macworld-twitter-crash/

From the "rather amusing" files, it appears that Web 2.0 poster child Twitter crashed under the extreme load of people trying to blog directly from the Steve Jobs keynote at MacWorld today. :)

Steve Jobs Finally Announces Apple iTunes Movie Rentals at Macworld
from Mashable! by Kristen Nicole
http://mashable.com/2008/01/15/apple-itunes-movie-rentals/

Apple will be adding movie rentals to iTunes, but there are some downsides. Read the article for more...
